Born in Sao Paulo, Brasil; Marcelo Ehrlich immigrated to Israel at the age of 18.  He  studied flute performance, and played for 10 seasons as principal flautist of the Haifa Symphony Orchestra.  Marcelo obtained his B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Life Sciences at the Tel Aviv University. Following post-doctoral training at the Harvard Medical School he was recruited to the Cell Research and Immunology Department of the Tel Aviv University, where he now holds the position of Full Professor. His long-term interests are in  how cells communicate with each other and with their environment, how this communication is altered in tumorigenesis, how viruses exploit cellular resources, and how all of these factors can be employed in development of novel therapies. Recently, in collaboration with Eran Bacharach, Marcelo is developing the novel oncolytic virus, EHDV-TAU.  Marcelo’s research has been supported by grants from the Israel Science Foundation, the Binational Science Fund, the Israel Cancer Association, the Israel Cancer Research Fund and the Israeli Ministries of Health, Science and Technology and Agriculture. In addition to research activities, Marcelo is an active lecturer and currently directs the Program for Excelling Students at the Tel Aviv University. He lives with his wife, Sara Zadunaisky Ehrlich, in Tel Aviv. They have three daughters.
